Lessons Learned from Abraham’s Servant

Greetings from chilly Alabama! Despite our cloudy and cold (for Alabama 🥶) day, my heart is content and I am very grateful to be posting again about the goodness of God!

So our church is encouraging us to read through the Bible this year. I usually study by focusing on a particular passage, theme or book but my hubby’s enthusiasm with this has helped me tackle this method (I’ve only done this one other time and with no shame I admit that it took 2 years to complete). I am learning a lot! We are each following a commentary, his by J. Vernon McGee and mine by Warren W. Wiersbe (see note below for more info). We are learning a lot so I share all of this to encourage you too to find a good Bible commentary to reference in your studies. You will be amazed at how the Lord opens His word to you.

One of my favorite Biblical folks is Abraham’s servant (see Genesis 24 for a really good read 😊). He is never named, yet God gives us his story of obedience and faithfulness. I really like this guy and look forward to meeting him in Heaven some day.

Genesis 24 is the story of Abraham’s servant being commissioned to travel back to the original home place in Mesopotamia, find a bride and bring her back to Isaac. Commentaries tell us that this passage is a picture of Jesus and His bride, the church. I love all of that but what stands out to me about this passage is the servant. So here are a few thoughts …

The servant is never named but his actions speak volumes. First, he made a commitment to Abraham (v. 2).

He was obedient to Abraham’s instructions and followed through with the task at hand … a very long journey with unknown outcomes.

He sought God’s help and guidance.

This servant would not be distracted … he wouldn’t eat until he discussed the business at hand (vv. 33-49). Then he would not tarry. He wanted to complete his task despite the family requesting that he hang around for a while (v. 56).

This servant gave God praise many times throughout his task.

I have a bad habit of procrastination. I tend to wait too long to tackle a necessary task then I can easily be distracted. The Lord really spoke to me as I read verse 56 …

“Do not delay me, since the Lord has prospered my way (v. 56 NASB).”

Then the Lord told me to share this with you so I shan’t ‘delay’. I don’t know if this will speak to your heart or not. That’s up to The Lord. But like the servant, I don’t like attention and care not if I am anonymous, I share my name on these posts only because you are my friends; I just want to be obedient, be faithful, finish the task at hand, not be distracted (I’ll call mom after proofreading this 😉), to not delay and to always give God praise.

Thank You Lord for Your Word and speaking it to our hearts!!!

Prayers that our Lord bless you bunches,

Kim 💕😊

Just a comment on our commentaries 😉 … These are easy to read, great commentaries for laypeople, teachers, and pastors .…

My Hope

God’s golden sunrise the morning before surgery granted me much hope and peace

Greetings Folks! I feel like I’ve been in a deep cave and am finally starting to see light ahead! I thank the Lord for His many blessings, one being a great surgeon who has helped my back tremendously!

About 7 weeks ago I hurt my back and could barely walk. Many times I prayed through the night for relief, not just for myself but for others around the world who were hurting too. Sometimes praying for others helps me cope with my own pain.

Pain can distance us from God or it can draw us closer to Him, especially when we recognize that He is the source of our strength to face each day, sometimes even each moment. Even better, recognizing that God is our hope for the future brings great comfort. I know that I have a future with Jesus and there will be no more pain and no more heartache. Praise the Lord!!!🙌🙌🙌

But I made a choice a long time ago …I chose to trust Jesus, to follow Him no matter what. I still have to make that choice. Pain, heartache, health issues, just life in general, can affect my walk with Him so, in spite of hard stuff, I choose to stick with Him no matter what.

My prayer is that you know Jesus and not just know about Him. I pray you know Him as your Savior and your friend. And please allow me to encourage you to grow in your relationship with Him and He will comfort you and give you hope. He is our hope!

Blessings,

Kim💕🙏💕🙏💕🙏

A Dash of Sweetness

My Post Surgery Sweet Little Buddies

I hope this sweet photo will grant you a smile today. The Little Buddies were concerned and offered their sweetness after my back surgery this week. Animals never cease to amaze me with their ways to express their affections. Maybe that’s some of God’s goodness showing through them … I like to think so whether such is theologically sound or not. 😉🐶😻❤️

The surgery has made concentration a little difficult 🤪 but hopefully my brain will be ready to share more of God’s goodness before long. God has been with us and provided for us through a tough time. We are so grateful to Him. 🙌

You really can’t know this but you friends are dear to my heart and remain in my thoughts and prayers. Above all, I hope you know the love of Jesus. ❤️✝️

Have a blessed week,

Kim 💕🐶🐱❤️🙌🙏

Hopes and Fears

“The hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight.”

This line from “O Little Town of Bethlehem” keeps running through my mind this week. Oftentimes I sing Christmas Carols and just mainly enjoy the singing without always paying due attention to the words. After the third or fourth time this ran through my brain, I decided that if the Good Lord is putting this in my head repeatedly there must be a reason. So I pondered those words for a bit.

I really believe that our precious Lord was reminding me that no matter what we face, no matter the future, no matter our hopes or our fears, He is here. He loves us, He wants to help us and He will help us through whatever is before us.

Life circumstances can be so frustrating, uncertain, scary, uncontrollable … by the way, I can hear you saying Amen to that! 😉 Even as I type this though, I am struggling with circumstances beyond my control but dear friends, I tell you truly, the peace of God is with me. I won’t go into details but I will be transparent enough to tell you this because I want you too to have that peace and know the hope that He is always with you. He is Emmanuel, God with us.

God does not wave some magic wand and make everything better. He never promised that. But my dear friends, He does give us what we need, when we need it to face the circumstances of life and live victoriously in Him.

All hopes and fears are truly met in Him.

O Little Town of Bethlehem

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by;
yet in thy dark streets shine the the everlasting light.
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary, and, gathered all above
while mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth,
and praises sing to God the King and peace to men on earth.

How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray,
cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Immanuel!

Phillips Brooks, 1868

May the Lord meet all your hopes and fears and grant you His peace,

Kim💕✝️🎄
